FAQ
Q: Why is Chinese character count different from total characters?
A: Total characters includes all characters (Chinese, letters, spaces, punctuation, numbers, etc.), while Chinese character count only counts Chinese characters. For example, "Hello 你好" has 8 total characters but 2 Chinese characters.
Q: How are English words counted?
A: English word count counts words composed of consecutive letters. For example, "don't" counts as 2 words, and "hello-world" may count as 1-2 words depending on context.
Q: Is the reading time estimate accurate?
A: Reading time is estimated based on average reading speed, which varies by person. Average adults read Chinese at 300-500 characters/minute; we use 350 as a baseline.
Q: Are emojis counted?
A: Emojis are counted in total characters (each emoji typically takes 1-2 character positions) but not in Chinese character or English word counts.
Q: What do the options do?
A: "Count punctuation" controls whether punctuation is included in character count. "Count newlines as characters" controls whether line breaks count as characters. These affect how total characters are calculated.
